How To Paint Brick

Exterior Painting

Below are the simple steps on how to paint brick to ensure a long-lasting, durable finish that looks fantastic along with the features and benefits of Haymes Paints.

Steps On How To Paint Brick

Planning

Both QuickPave and Solashield can be applied directly onto most surfaces.

  • QuickPave is suitable for both interior and exterior use, so whether you’re wanting to know how to paint exterior brick or how to paint interior brick the steps are the same.
  • Solashield is the ultimate in durability when it comes to exterior surfaces, with superb adhesion, great coverage, minimal roller splatter and the convenience of water wash-up.

Preparation

The first (and most important) step on how to paint brick is to prepare the surface. Make sure there are no surface contaminants (e.g. oil, mould, grease etc) and that it is clean and free of dust.

Painting

  1. Ensure you give the paint a good stir before applying the first coat. If you’re adding our non-slip additive, add this to the paint for the first coat.
  2. Once the surface is completely dry you can apply your first coat of paint.
  3. If using a roller, use a brush to cut into any grooves, cracks or hard-to-reach spots then use the roller to paint the remaining area.
  4. Only two coats are required (the second coat can be applied two hours after the first coat).
  5. After two hours and once the first coat is dry, you can apply the second coat.

In terms of application, both QuickPave and Solashield paints are suitable for spraying or painting with a brush or roller.
