Heritage Hues Palette: A Colour Forecast Partnership with Nexus Designs

Colour Colour Forecasts

We are thrilled to present the highly anticipated Haymes Paint Colour Library Origins Volume 17– a captivating journey through the latest trends in colour for 2024.The creation of Heritage Hues is a result of the partnership between Haymes Paint and multidisciplinary studio, Nexus Designs. We’ve had a longstanding relationship with Nexus Designs for over 20 years, andcontinue to be inspired by their work across interior design, product development and visual communications. Colour forecasting is a daily exploration and integration for Nexus Designs, they’re constantly studying global and local trends, and are inspired by everything from architecture and art to material technology and the landscape.

This colour palette had the team at Nexus Designs thinking about how everyone has a story, and how every space has a story too. They wanted to take the time to explore context and move towards a greater consciousness of what’s come before us. The main aim of Heritage Hues is to give a traditional space a rich wash of colour while feeling evocative and expressive. It begins with the context of the space – in this case, it’s a cosy room in a Victorian home in Melbourne. It was important to honour the home’s tradition and take into account the ornate features. We’ll add that you don’t necessarily have to approach this in the same way if you’re painting a property that feels quite modern.

The colour choice was guided by how the space is used. Here, it’s a reading nook for retreat and relaxation that requires softness in the furniture and styling, but still needs to feel confident and expressive. The muted depths of the Haymes Paint colour ‘Florida Everglade’ really embody the qualities of this concept. It’s balanced, invigorating, subtle and luscious. It’s also used as an all-over application, so the other complementary colours in the palette are achieved by layering furniture, styling and playing with tactility, reflection (we love the mirror choice!) and form. In addition to this, the use of ‘Juneau’ in the hallway introduces a complementary colour from the palette while creating spatial delineation between the private retreat and the public walkway of the hall.Given such a bold paint colour was used throughout the space, Nexus Designs wanted to create subtle shifts of differences to help guide the eye and ground the experience of being in the space. Using various sheen levels such as a high gloss finish, they were able to highlight different features such as architraves, cornices and doors. Nexus Desgins were considerate of the natural light in the room and how it falls across the walls throughout the day which influenced their colour decision. In a space like this, colours similar to ‘Rubicon’ and ‘Rhapsody’ can easily be injected through furniture (like the velvet feature chair) or an object on display like a sculpture or vase.
