Living by the ocean and embracing the coastal home lifestyle doesn’t have to mean your backyard rolls straight onto the beach. Although that is the dream, you can take a more understated coastal home and transform it into your dream beach oasis.

This is exactly what Jervis Bay couple Heidi and Douk did. With a 90’s fixer-upper as their base, and Haymes Paint in their toolkit, they turned an outdated brick house into a Palm Springs oasis.

With a keen vision and a little help from Haymes Paint Colour and Concepts Manager Wendy Rennie, Stay Casita was born.

The heart of the home, the kitchen, is a stark contrast to its humble beginnings. Altering the floor plan to accommodate a galley kitchen with an eye-catching island bench helped to create maximum impact with minimal space. Through the use of Organic 1 by Haymes Paint, a sun-bleached looked was able to be achieved, playing into the natural timbers and stone elements to evoke the feeling of a coastal environment.

There is nothing quite as peaceful as sitting outside and enjoying the salty breeze as it comes off the ocean. Stay Casita was able to emulate this environment by transforming the old verandah area from a dull unused space into a Mediterranean inspired outdoor sanctuary. Taking the breezeblocks painted in Haymes Paint Tangelo Cream, found at the front of the property and replicating the look in the backyard helped to seamlessly replicate the Palm Springs charm of the 1960’s era breezeblocks.

Colours used: Haymes Paint Balsa 2

The modern bathroom inspiration came from the curved structures of the Mediterranean coastline and is a far cry from its original 90’s styling. The blush tones of the bathroom tie into the peach tiles, which also feature in Stay Casita’s kitchen. To make these dusty pinks sing, Haymes Paint in the shade Balsa 2 was used on the walls and ceilings.

The Stay Casita project is such a wonderful example on how an unassuming home from the 90’s can take on a completely new lease of life with a few bold changes. It proves that you shouldn’t be afraid of trends and to find a style that you absolutely love and use it within your home! There is no home that can’t be given a brand-new look without a little love and a whole lot of Haymes Paint.
