Bring old furniture back to life with Haymes Paint
Breathe new life into furniture using Haymes Paint Woodcare
If you have a solid piece of timber furniture in your home that needs a little facelift, Haymes Paint Woodcare range could be just the thing to breathe new life into a well-loved piece. Items in high traffic areas such as dining, or coffee tables are susceptible to scratches and stains but that doesn’t mean they need to be thrown away.
To refurnish a piece to its original colour we recommend preparing the wood surface by sanding it back to remove any stains and surface scratches. For deeper scratches apply a wood filler. A clear coating such as Haymes Paint Woodcare Aqualac Clear can then be used to bring the wood’s colour to life and protect it from any further damage.
If you want to try a totally new colour palette with your furniture, a darker stain across a number of furniture pieces can create a consistent look in your home. By applying multiple coats of one of our Woodcare products, like Haymes Paint Woodcare Wood Stain, this look can be achieved. To seal in the product and protect it, we recommend applying a clear coating such as Haymes Paint Woodcare Interior Varnish over the top, and your new look is complete.
Want to add some colour? Try Haymes Paint Artisan Soft Chalk
If you’re a bit of an old hand at upcycling furniture than you would have heard of chalk paint. If you’re newer to upcycling, Haymes Paint Artisan Soft Chalk can help refresh any piece of furniture with ease. It is a popular product among up-cyclers because of its impressive adhesion and opacity.Â
Haymes Paint Artisan Soft Chalk gives you a great opportunity to really experiment with colour, and if you don’t love the result, you can sand it back and try again. It’s a great way to keep up with current trends without breaking the bank and creating waste. When another trending colour comes along, all your furniture needs is a lick of paint, and what once was old is new again!
A popular technique with chalk paint is to create a vintage distressed look. This look can be achieved by applying two coats of paint of the same colour to the furniture piece then applying an additional coat in a different colour. To complete the look, sand down the last coat in areas where wear would normally occur (think raised edges) to reveal the base colour underneath. It is a subtle way to use a two-toned effect and can help to add an old-world charm to your home.
