Best Paint For Architraves
Being around doors and windows, architraves are usually susceptible to marks and scuffs so the best paint for architraves is one that is durable and easy to clean. Gloss or semi-gloss paints are not only easier to clean but also provide a great looking finish to architraves. Matt or flat paints are often used for walls so the glossier finish on architraves and skirting boards can add a complementary contrast.Â
If you’re unsure what colour scheme to use, we have fully qualified Colour Consultants who can do an online or in-home consultation to help you choose the right colours for your home.Â
Best Way To Paint Architraves
For the best way to paint architraves, here are step-by-step instructions: Â
- Ensure you have everything you need for your project. Your local Haymes Paint store or stockist will be able to give you advice on what you’ll need.Â
- Prepare the area - put a mat or old newspapers on the floor
- Remove any existing paint on the architraves
- Make sure the surfaces are clean of any dust and dirt
- Remove any knots or dents using a filler
- Put painters tape around the edges of the architraves
- Apply your first coat of primer. Once fully dry, give it a light sand with fine sandpaper
- Apply two coats of undercoat ensuring the first coat is completely dry before applying the second.Â
- Apply the topcoat and allow to dry completely before removing the painter’s tape
Best Paint Brush For Architraves
A good quality brush is the best paint brush for architraves to ensure a good finish. The type of paint brush you use (i.e. bristle length) will depend on the paint you have chosen but for architraves, we do recommend a brush with a smaller width. For your architraves, a cutter brush may be the best option as the tapered edge makes cutting in easier. Once you have chosen your paint, talk to your local experts about what brush is best to use with that paint.
