Supporting State-of-the-Art Healthcare - Ballarat Base Hospital Redevelopment

Health

As a proud Australian owned business based in Ballarat since 1935, Haymes Paint was honoured to contribute to the transformative Ballarat Base Hospital Redevelopment Stage Two in partnership with John Holland, one of Australia’s largest and most respected commercial builders. This landmark redevelopment is one of the most significant health infrastructure projects in regional Victoria and reflects a commitment to delivering advanced, patient-centric care, while supporting Australian-made manufacturing and creating tangible benefits for the Ballarat community and beyond.

Haymes Paint’s involvement centred on the new Central Energy Plant and Support Services Building, a vital component of the redevelopment. This facility now houses essential services, including pharmacy and pathology, and features a cutting-edge Education and Learning Centre designed to support both Grampians Health and the Deakin Rural Clinical School. The inclusion of this educational hub not only enhances regional medical training capabilities but also ensures local communities have continued access to the highest standard of care, close to home..

In this critical healthcare environment, the choice of materials matters. Our Ultimate Anti-Bac coating was specified for use throughout the new facility. HaymesUltimate Two-Pack Anti-Bac water-based EpoxyLow Sheen is a unique water-born coating with mould and bacteria resistance. The ultra-smooth durable finish has exceptional resistance to regular harsh clinical cleaning procedures. This multi-purpose product carries excellent chemical and high-water resistance and is ideal for walls, doors and trims. The unique Two-Pack application creates a low sheen anti-bacterial system that can be tinted to a wide spectrum of broad wall colour, making it ideal for healthcare infrastructure.

Ultratrim Semi-Gloss was applied to doors and trims, offering a smooth, hard-wearing finish with excellent mark and stain resistance, ideal for areas with frequent contact and cleaning. For the ceilings and broad wall surfaces, Ultra Premium Expressions Ceiling White and Expressions Matt were selected respectively. These products provide superior coverage, low odour application and a refined, low-sheen finish that helps create a calming, visually consistent environment throughout the facility. Haymes Paint’s reliable and consistent product quality helped ensure a flawless finish across all surfaces, meeting the project's exacting standards and enhancing the longevity and aesthetic of this critical healthcare space.

Haymes Paint’s ability to customise solutions played a significant role in delivery of this project. The team worked closely with the project architects to create bespoke colour matches for doors and finishes, ensuring the interior aesthetics aligned seamlessly with the architect’s vision while meeting Light Reflectance Value (LRV) guidelines crucial for accessibility and compliance in public health settings.

Project architect Anderson Matthews credited Haymes Paint as a key partner in the successful delivery of this phase of the Ballarat Base Hospital project. Reflecting on the experience, Matthews stated: “Haymes Paint played an integral role in the successful delivery of the Ballarat Base Hospital project. The team provided exceptional service, ensuring urgent paint deliveries were made promptly, which helped us maintain construction timelines. Their technical support was critical during the specification phase offering guidance on appropriate coatings for a range of clinical and non-clinical environments, as well as expert assistance with colour matching.” His comments underscore the vital combination of logistical reliability and technical expertise required for similar complex commercial projects.

The redevelopment is more than bricks and mortar; it’s a comprehensive reimagining of how healthcare is delivered in the region. The redevelopment is also an economic catalyst. Over 1,400 construction jobs are expected to be created during the project lifecycle, with up to 1,000 new hospital roles once fully operational, delivering lasting benefits to Ballarat’s workforce and economy. By collaborating with John Holland and health sector stakeholders and supplying world-class, Australian-made coatings, Haymes Paint is proud to play a part in a project that exemplifies architectural excellence, construction capability and community impact.
