Breathing New Life into a Regional Treasure: The Sir Robert Menzies Monument Restoration

Across regional Australia, there are places that tell the story of our communities. They stand as reminders of local history, resilience and shared identity. In Jeparit, one such landmark has recently been given a new lease on life through a community-led restoration project supported by Hindmarsh Shire Council, dedicated volunteers, and Haymes Paint.

What was once becoming an overlooked and weathered space has now been transformed into a vibrant community asset, creating a renewed sense of pride for residents and visitors alike. The monument pays tribute to Australia’s 12th Prime Minister, Sir Robert Menzies, who was born in Jeparit.

The project, led by local volunteer and community advocate Gabby Williams, focused on restoring the monument's exterior surfaces and revitalising the surrounding space. While the physical transformation is immediately visible, the true impact extends far beyond a fresh coat of paint.

As Australia's iconic family-owned paint brand, Haymes Paint has spent more than 90 years helping protect and preserve the places Australians cherish. From homes and public buildings to community facilities and regional landmarks, Haymes products have played a role in safeguarding Australian spaces for generations.

Supporting the Sir Robert Menzies monument project was an opportunity to continue that legacy, helping preserve a site of local significance while empowering the volunteers who dedicated countless hours to its renewal.

The project was made possible through the collective efforts of passionate community members and the support of Hindmarsh Shire Council, demonstrating the power of collaboration in regional communities.

Reflecting on the outcome, Project Lead Gabby Williams shared:

"I just want to thank Haymes Paint and the team so much again for your generous support of this project. It has breathed new life into this almost forgotten space. One of our workers has already been into the Horsham store, and expressed how happy they were with the lovely team, quality product and competitive pricing of Haymes Paint. Thank you so much again."

For Haymes Paint, this project represents more than supporting a restoration initiative. It reflects our commitment to strengthening the regional communities that have supported our Australian-made products for generations.

The renewed monument now stands as a symbol of what can be achieved when councils, volunteers and local businesses come together with a shared purpose. It is a reminder that preserving places of significance helps preserve the stories, connections and community spirit that define regional Australia.

Because the places that matter deserve to be protected for generations to come.
