Past Paint Colour Trends

Looking over the last 5-10 years or so, past paint colour trends were a real mix. Casting back to 2015, we enjoyed soft natural tones such as lush greens and dusty pinks, being contrasted with vibrant, bold and effervescent palettes.

In 2018 & 2019 we saw earthy tones, pastels, and monochrome hues with a shift into bright hues such as rust orange, mustard yellow, forest green and oxblood red. Deep teal was a particularly popular colour over the last few years too. Popular earthy tones included: 

• Olive green
• Terracotta
• Dark brown

Pastel colour trends included shades of lilac, powder blue, pastel yellow and mint green and we saw monochrome hues (black, white & grey) paired with gold metallic textures or woodgrain finishes.

Current Paint Colour Trends

Retro is back in current paint colour trends with the bright bold colours of the 60s, 70s and 80s. Combining the old with the new, modern white is being used as a base allowing the strong vibrant colours to truly shine. This current paint colour trend gives you the perfect platform to get creative and have fun with your furniture and decor too - this is your opportunity to use exciting patterns, textures and playful accent features. 

Another current paint colour trend is 'Light Play’. Think of unexpected colour combinations incorporating intense vivid shades paired with contrasting newer colours and earthy tones. And then we shift into the 'Carefully Nurtured' palette inspired by colour psychology. Focusing on the ‘energy’ in your home this palette is all about creating a sense of harmony and calm. Earthy and neutral tones are carefully curated with complimentary textures, soft furnishing and natural materials like wood and leather. 

Future Paint Colour Trends

For future paint colour trends, we see the focus on creating ‘energy’ in your spaces continuing. We’ve seen a real shift in people focused on creating the perfect sanctuaries not only in residential spaces but commercial spaces too.
