Touch dry after 20 minutes, our chalk paint can be reapplied after 2 hours. With a bespoke finish, our premium quality chalk paint makes upcycling and creating elegant distressed effects a breeze.Â
What kind of brush to use with chalk paint?
When applying Haymes Artisan Collection Soft Chalk to furniture, it’s important to use paint brushes that provide a smooth even finish and for broad wall applications, a quality synthetic roller. Your local Haymes stockist can help you choose the right brush to use with chalk paint and also advise you on how to prepare the surface where chalk paint is to be applied.
What to paint chalkboard paint on?
Painting chalkboard paint on a sealed MDF board or a wall is a cost-effective and simple way to add hours of fun to your children’s day. Chalkboard paint on a sealed MDF board can also be used in offices, cafes and kitchens as a stylish and functional notice board. Haymes Artisan Collection Chalkboard Paint has been specifically formulated to dry to a flat and slightly abrasive finish that is easy to write on with chalk. This fast-drying, low odour water-based chalkboard paint provides excellent coverage for large and small interior and exterior painting projects.
Can you use chalkboard paint on furniture?
Our chalkboard paint is suitable to use on most surfaces including plasterboard, timber, masonry and previously painted surfaces. As long as the furniture has been properly prepared, you’re good to go!

How to paint with chalk paint?
This specially formulated chalk paint is ideal for interior painting projects including walls in low traffic areas, bulkheads, ceilings and furniture. The first step for how to chalk paint is to prepare first by applying Haymes Ultraseal for new surfaces or by cleaning & lightly sanding previously painted surfaces. When it comes to how to apply chalk paint to walls, cut in minimally to the edges and roll 2 coats of Haymes Artisan Collection Soft Chalk using a 12mm synthetic roller. While our chalk paint is touch-dry after 20 minutes, allow 2 hours before applying a second coat. For how to apply chalk paint to furniture - apply 2 coats by brush, sanding between coats. For a distressed finish, sand edges in high wear areas to reveal a contrasting colour or the timber. Seal with chalk paint wax.
What is the difference between chalkboard paint and chalk paint?Â
Chalk paint is a special paint that can create a soft, chalk-like, velvety finish to furniture, walls in low traffic areas, bulkheads and ceilings. Haymes Artisan Collection Soft Chalkhas superior adhesion and is easy to apply. For furniture, protect distressed and antiqued looks by using wax sealers over Soft Chalk. Chalkboard Paint can be applied to any suitably prepared surface where writing with chalk is desired. Haymes Artisan Collection Chalkboard Paint has been specifically formulated with a slightly abrasive, black flat finish that makes writing in chalk a breeze.Â

Using chalk paint on wood tables and furniture is ideal for creating a bespoke softly ageing appearance. Haymes Artisan Collection Soft Chalk is a premium quality chalk paint that’s been specially designed to use on wooden furniture as well as ceilings and walls in low traffic areas.
How to use chalk paint on furniture?
The first step when it comes to how to chalk paint furniture is to fill any holes & cracks with the filler recommended by your Haymes stockist. Sand, wipe clean and apply 2 coats of Artisan Soft Chalk by brush, sanding between coats. For a distressed finish, sand edges in high wear areas to reveal a contrasting colour or the timber. Seal with chalk paint wax.
