Haymes’ colour library, a place to browse the colours heading our way, has become an important resource for architects, designers and for those keen to get the most from their homes (as well as other building types) and they look forward to discovering each new ‘volume’. And rather than the typical colour forecast, our newest Haymes Colour Library Vol. 15: Awakening is now about focusing on the individual, their own environment and feeling good about oneself in these COVID times. But unlike fast fashion or fads conceived for the moment, these new colours are about celebrating the lives of people as much as the walls or surfaces on which these colours appear.
“The internet has certainly made design and colour trends more instantaneous, but we’ve developed these new colours over several months and with extensive research. Each hue is carefully matched to the way Australians live, as well as our unique climate and terrain,” says Wendy Rennie, Colour & Concept Manager for Haymes.
The three new palettes, In the Moment, Game Changer and Clearview, can be used together or independently. They capture not only core values but allow people to curate their own interiors that reflect who they are and what has meaning for them.

Confidence and reassurance steer this group of colours. They are earthy and include beautiful rust and ochre tones that speak to the Australian landscape, providing a truly grounded feel. Imbued with less grey hues than in the past, these warm tones are the new ‘neutrals’ for both contemporary and period homes. Responding to nature, the moment has arrived to embrace colours with a certain warmth that is often delivered with a soft yellow base.

COVID-19 has made us think differently about our homes, now more than ever as a place of refuge and containment. And while restrictions may hamper our movements, we’re still free to embrace colour and push boundaries. With new pastels, from faded blues to soft watery teals, Game Changer is complemented by clear and lively tones and strong contrasts, such as vibrant yellow. In the pages of this Colour Library one can find Haymes colour ‘Rose Coloured’, capturing the colour of a setting sun in the Australian landscape.

How often have we heard the phrases ‘sea change’ or ‘tree change’ in the last 18 months since COVID entered our lives. Many have decided to move out of the city, and others are keen to create this sense of escape in their own homes. Colours such as Haymes ‘Paradise Pool’, a soft aqua evocative of the sea, is as poetic as the clear view that’s delivered with these range of colours.

Although the library offers a range of whites, blacks and all the greys in between, it’s now about texture and allowing both the colour and the objects within a room convey a story about the owners and their values. “It’s important to create a story that has meaning for those who use our colours,” says Rennie, who continues to see a strengthening in the colours’ connection to the outdoors, whether that be our gardens, our parks or the extraordinary hues discovered along our coastline. “It’s certainly a mood we’ve created, specifically tied to the Australian psyche and the way we live.”
