How to Paint a Deck - Simply Woodcare Decking

Steps to Painting a Deck

Learn how to paint a deck by following these simple steps:

1. Gather your required tools by visiting your nearest stockist, including:

  • Exterior Wood Cleaner
  • Paint brush (recommended: 75mm synthetic brush) & tray
  • Stiff bristle broom
  • Dexpress deck & timber stain
  • Paint stirrer
  • Decking applicator*
  • Safety glasses & gloves
  • Plastic bucket
  • Pressure washer

2. Remove all surface contaminants with the Exterior Wood Cleaner

  • Mix 4 parts water to 1 part wood cleaner
  • Scrub the mixture into the decking surface with the stiff bristle broom & then wash off with the pressure cleaner

3. Apply the Dexpress to the timber

  • Use the decking applicator & tray for large surfaces
  • Use the brush for smaller surfaces such as corners & steps

4. Apply a second coat of Dexpress

  • Recommended: 2 hours after first coat was applied & is dry

*It is recommended to use a lambswool applicator. However, if you’re wondering how to paint a deck with a roller, the same steps (as above) can be used with a roller applicator.

Note: for the best results, begin this project after 6-8 weeks of weathering & in dry conditions (no rain forecast)
