Kip & Co - Inject a splash of colour into your home

Haymes recently collaborated with wall whisperers Kip & Co to transform a nursery into an uber cool space that really packs a punch. As a part of our Room Reveal, we spoke with the wonder-gals Alex, Kate and Hayley to learn how colours and patterns can be used together to create fresh, bright and fun spaces in any home.

Haymes: What inspired you to choose the Haymes colours for this vignette?

Kip & Co: Kate did a fluid mural in her feisty three year old Zig’s room and we used this as inspiration for the wall. We chose a bunch of colours that are favourites of Kip & Co’s - we’re very big on chartreuse and mustard, and peach and indigo in our prints. But really we were spoilt for choice because Haymes has so many beautiful, bold colours available. The Haymes colours work so well together because you can create a muted subtle aesthetic or grab two contrasting tones and create a fresh and bright design. By mixing the colours together, we have created a space that is simple and fun.

H: How important is colour to you and why?

K & C: Colour is king! Introducing colour into your home – either on your walls or furnishings or artwork - can transform a space without needing to do a big renovation. Colour is also food for the soul. We’re big believers in colour therapy. Surrounding yourself with colour and the people and things you love goes a long way to making a happy life.

H: What advice would you offer to people who shy away from injecting a splash of colour into their homes?

K & C: Take a deep breath, and jump in! You don’t have to go all out if you find the idea overwhelming. Start where your feel comfortable and go from there. It’s about finding a balance of colour that reflects your personality.

H: Tell us a little about how Kip & Co started.

K & C: Four years ago, three friends (Alex, Kate and Hayley) had a dream to fill a gap in the market for bright, bold and beautiful bedding. We knew a fashion-forward and creative place like Australia would embrace our business, Kip & Co. Our first collection in 2012 received a positive response and gave us the mojo to keep getting bigger and better each season. Today, you can kit out your whole house with Kip & Co - we’ve expanded into kids bedding (and this season we even have glow in the dark sheets!), have heaps of goodies for the bubs like swaddles and play mats, sleep wear, wall hangings, and rugs. And this is just the start – we have many cool things in the pipeline that we’re excited to launch.

H: Which Australian designers, artists or creatives do you love at the moment?

K & C: We’re listening to Bannoffee in the studio - she is one hot Aussie lady to watch. And I have an ongoing obsession with artist Fred Fowler. If you are talking about Australian artists you can’t go past Mirka Mora. We were saying the other day how timeless her art is and how lucky Melbourne is to have her as part of our fabric - she is a total dame! In terms of interiors, we are spoilt for choice in Melbourne. We are all currently renovating and love the injection concrete texture can bring to our homes - Concrete Architecture are the boys for the job. Also check out our good friends at Tuck Box for beautiful stools, Douglas and Bec for homewares and Robert Gordon for ceramics…we could be here all day!

H: What is your favourite quote?

K & C: “You don’t stop laughing when you grow old, you grow old when you stop laughing” - George Bernard Shaw.

H: How can readers follow your work?

K & C: We love social media. It’s an awesome place to share creative ideas (including how to embrace colour in the home!) with a like-minded community. Follow us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter or check out our website
